We use a mix of semi-precious, natural and man-made materials all of which have their own properties, levels of hardness and care guidelines.

Pearls are a porous mineral and therefore special care must be taken when storing and wearing pearl jewellery. Pearls should not be stored in an air-tight environment as they benefit greatly from a little moisture so we advise storing them in your original Sun Trade Beads box or soft pouch. Keep your pearls away from hairspray, perfume, cosmetics, chlorine bleach, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar and ammonia, as these substances will damage the pearl surface. Make sure to put pearls on after finished spraying perfume or hairspray and putting on makeup.

When not being worn, Sun Trade jewellery should be stored in its original packaging. Store all your jewellery items separately, as jewellery can become tangled or scratched if rubbed against another metal or material. Avoid storing fine jewellery with costume jewellery.

Keep your jewellery in a safe, dry place and out of direct sunlight. Jewellery should not be stored in places with high moisture levels, such as a bathroom, wet room or windowsill. Equally jewellery should not be stored in places of high heat levels such as next to a radiator. Exposure to these conditions can tarnish jewellery.

We advise applying any make-up, hair products, perfumes and lotions before putting on jewellery, as some cosmetics can damage jewellery. It is also recommended to wipe your jewellery clean with a dry, lint-free cloth after each wear to remove any cosmetics and natural body oils. Remove your jewellery when doing physical exercise, labor intensive activities and when sleeping, to protect your own safety and to avoid any knocks or scratches to your jewellery.

You should remove your jewellery when in the shower or bath, as well as when bathing in a pool, hot-tub or the sea, as chemicals such as chlorine can damage the jewellery. For this same reason, it is recommended to remove your jewellery when doing any household cleaning as harsh chemicals such as bleach can cause permanent damage.

Check your jewellery for dirt, marks and scratches regularly. Do not use any abrasive cleaners or chemicals on your jewellery. If you are unsure about how to clean your jewellery, please contact us or a local jeweler for advice.
